Young Manchester United defender Marnick Vermijl is thought to have joined NEC Nijmegen on a 12-month loan deal.

Manchester United defender Marnick Vermijl has reportedly joined Dutch side NEC Nijmegen on a season-long loan basis.

The Belgian is believed to have made the switch on the same day that he agreed an extension to his current contract at Old Trafford, according to The Standard.

Vermijl, 21, signed for United in 2010 following a stint on the books in his homeland with Standard Liege, but he has made just one League Cup appearance for the Red Devils.

The report added that United have the option to recall the full-back in January.
