Premier League rivals Liverpool and Manchester United will reportedly have to pay up to £70m if they wish to sign James Rodriguez from Real Madrid in the summer.

Liverpool will rival Manchester United for the signing of Real Madrid midfielder James Rodriguez, according to a report.

The Colombia international is approaching the end of a two-year loan spell with Bayern Munich, which has had mixed results.

James has recently hit a good run of form, but Bayern have hinted that they will not take up the option to sign him permanently in the summer.

Man United have previously been tipped to make a move for the 27-year-old, who is unlikely to force his way into Real's first team next season under Zinedine Zidane, and talkSPORT suggests that Liverpool may also be in the queue to sign him.

A separate report in Spanish newspaper Elconfidencial indicates that Real are after up to £70m for the ex-Monaco ace, though they may settle for closer to £50m if the saga drags on.

James has played a direct part in seven goals in 16 Bundesliga appearances this term.
