Southampton ace urges Memphis Depay to snub Manchester United move

Eljero Elia advises Netherlands teammate Memphis Depay to think twice about swapping PSV Eindhoven for Manchester United this early in his career.

Southampton winger Eljero Elia has urged reported Manchester United target Memphis Depay to snub a summer move to Old Trafford and stay at PSV Eindhoven.

The 21-year-old has emerged as one of Europe's hottest properties after scoring 19 times as PSV sit on the brink of an Eredivisie title, with the Red Devils plotting a £20m move.

Coach Phillip Cocu has recently revealed that he is resigned to losing the Netherlands international, who played under United boss Louis van Gaal for the Oranje during the World Cup.

However, Elia says that his compatriot would be wise to stay in Eindhoven to pick up some Champions League experience next season before setting his sights on England.

"I think it will be best for him to stay at Eindhoven," he told Voetbal International.

"My feeling is he should play in the Champions League for PSV then he would have the experience of playing at the highest level in his locker before the moves at 22.

"PSV don't need the money and I feel Memphis doesn't need it as he signed a nice contract recently."

His contract with the Dutch giants expires in 2018.
