Premier League clubs are reportedly exploring the option of moving for Antonio Rudiger before the summer, as a result of the Government's sanctions announced on Thursday.

Premier League clubs have reportedly began exploring the option of moving for Chelsea's Antonio Rudiger before the summer, as a result of the Government's sanctions announced on Thursday.

Following Russia's invasion into Ukraine in recent weeks, the Government had been exploring the option of sanctioning any Russian oligarchs in the UK, and on Thursday they made the move to freeze Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich's assets, including the football club.

The Stamford Bridge side are unable to sign players or agree new contracts for the time being, and are also unable to sell any match tickets or merchandise to supporters, whilst the pending sale of the club has also been put on hold.

As a result of the club's sanctions, Premier League sides are delving into the details, which may allow them to make a move for Rudiger earlier than originally planned, according to the Mirror.

With the 29-year-old's contract due to expire in the summer, foreign clubs are able to sign a pre-contract agreement with him and his representatives in advance, but current rules state that domestic sides are not permitted until the deal has ended.

Thursday's sanctions may have changed that stance though, and sides such as Manchester United and Newcastle United, who have both been heavily linked with free transfer moves, are monitoring the situation.

Chelsea and manager Thomas Tuchel have been keen to tie the German defender down to a new deal at Stamford Bridge, but the defender has so far rejected any offers on the table.
