Manchester United have announced that midfielder Michael Carrick has signed a new one-year contract extension at Old Trafford.
Questions over the 33-year-old's future have been asked over the last few weeks amid reports that AC Milan were interested in signing the Englishman.
However, Carrick, who has been a United player since his move from Tottenham Hotspur in 2006, has brushed off speculation about a possible exit by signing a new one-year deal.
Following the news, manager Louis van Gaal told reporters: "He is for me my second captain behind Wayne Rooney and he can also read the game as a team player so that's very important. He has also an excellent pass forward. That's very important for me."
Carrick, whose previous deal was due to expire at the end of the season, has made 376 appearances for United, scoring 23 goals.
