David Moyes receives Fabio Capello backing

Fabio Capello backs Man United boss David Moyes to silence his critics and prove a successful appointment at Old Trafford.

Fabio Capello has backed Manchester United boss David Moyes to silence his critics and prove a successful appointment at Old Trafford.

The Scot has endured a tumultuous first season in charge of the club since replacing Sir Alex Ferguson, with the Red Devils sitting 11 points adrift of Champions League qualification in the Premier League table.

Although Capello claims that United's woes stem from Moyes's delayed business in the summer transfer window, the legendary Italian trainer is convinced that the 50-year-old has what it takes to succeed.

He told Gazzetta dello Sport: "The mistake was to move too late in the transfer market, and then everything started to go wrong, but I really rate Moyes - he's a good manager".

Moyes's men face Crystal Palace on February 22.
