Roberto Martinez says that he considers Manchester United to be favourites for the title.

Wigan boss Roberto Martinez has said that he considers Manchester United to be favourites for the Premier League title this season.

United are currently second in the Premier League, two points adrift of local rivals Manchester City.

"It would be a big mistake not to consider United as title favourites," Martinez said.

"It is getting serious now, December is a month when you see the big players performing, and peaking for crucial games in the second half of the season.

"So it's no surprise that Wayne [Rooney] is hitting form at the right time, as we saw with his goal and general play against Fulham."

Wigan travel to Old Trafford on Monday as they attempt to escape the relegation zone.
