Ronald Koeman: 'Victory at Old Trafford proves our ambition'

Ronald Koeman believes that the 1-0 victory over Manchester United proves that Southampton have the ambition to continue their successful campaign.

Southampton manager Ronald Koeman has claimed that the 1-0 victory over Manchester United proves that his side can continue to surprise the biggest teams in the Premier League.

The Saints soaked up pressure with a stubborn defensive display before picking up their first win at Old Trafford in 27 years thanks to Dusan Tadic's goal, and Koeman was keen to praise the mentality of his players.

"We had some problems in the first half. The movements of Wayne Rooney especially but in the second half we were much better, we had more domination and scored a good goal, then you knew they would play long ball with Marouane Fellaini. It is three points at Old Trafford and that is fantastic," the Dutchman told Sky Sports News.

"The win says a lot about our ambition. We showed we can beat big teams. The belief was in the team today and that was key for the three points. It was not an easy game for Southampton, it hasn't been in the past but finally our fans celebrate three points at Old Trafford."

Southampton moved to third with the win, two points ahead of United.
