Michael Carrick says that there was a "funny" feeling in the Manchester United dressing room after their draw at West Bromwich Albion.

Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick has admitted that there was a "funny" atmosphere in the dressing room on Sunday following their draw with West Bromwich Albion at The Hawthorns.

In what was Sir Alex Ferguson's final game of his 26-year reign at the club, United twice squandered a three-goal lead to draw 5-5.

While in usual circumstances the champions could expect to receive a rollicking from Ferguson after the match, Carrick conceded that no such thing took place at the weekend.

"It was a funny time in the dressing room because of the situation," Carrick told ESPN. "It is starting to sink in, though [that he is retiring], and we've had a couple of weeks to digest the news.

"We're ready to move on. We've had a busy couple of weeks and there is a new challenge ahead for all of us to look forward to.

"I want to thank him for everything he has done. He has done much more than us."

Carrick was given the captain's armband for the match in the absence of a number of regular skippers.
