Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany "very concerned" by injury problems

Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini reveals that Vincent Kompany is "very concerned" about his injury problems.

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has revealed that captain Vincent Kompany is "very concerned" about his injury troubles.

The Belgium international has not played since Boxing Day when he was withdrawn from the field shortly after he came on as a substitute in City's 4-1 win over Sunderland.

He broke down with a calf injury - the same problem that has hampered the majority of his season - but Pellegrini has confirmed that the centre-back should be back in action by the end of February.

"He is very concerned, which is why he's trying to recover as soon as he can," Pellegrini told reporters. "He's doing all different examinations to try to understand the reasons why he is having so many injuries.

"Of course he wants to play. He is a very professional player. He is the first one who is very worried about his situation, which is why he is going everywhere to ask different specialists what is the reason.

"Maybe there's not a solution or maybe this can be his last injury but I think he has a very good attitude and he is doing everything he can to return as soon as a he can."

City are currently third in the Premier League table, three points adrift of leaders Arsenal.
