Sergio Aguero is ruled out of Manchester City's meeting with Chelsea due to a suspected broken rib sustained in a car accident during a trip to Amsterdam.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has revealed that he intends to get Sergio Aguero back up and running "ASAP" after the striker suffered a suspected broken rib in a car crash.

News filtered through early on Friday morning that the Argentina international had been involved in a road accident while travelling in a taxi during a trip to Amsterdam.

Little is still known about the extent of the damage suffered by Aguero, but Guardiola has confirmed that he will miss Saturday's meeting with Chelsea at the very least.

"Aguero has had an accident in Amsterdam and he will be back after that," he told reporters. "I am not a doctor. He will come back and recover ASAP.

"I have not yet [spoken with him]. I have been preparing training. I will speak to him today. First impression is that he has broken his rib."

Guardiola also expects to be without Benjamin Mendy until the tail end of the campaign after the full-back ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee against Crystal Palace last weekend.

"Benjamin Mendy will be operated on this afternoon in Barcelona and will be out until the time of the semi-final of Champions League," he added.

Initial reports suggest that Aguero could be facing around two months on the sidelines while he recovers.
