Malaga miss out on the chance to open up a five-point gap on the Champions League chasing pack as they are held to a 1-1 draw.

Malaga missed out on the chance to open up a five-point gap on the Champions League chasing pack as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Osasuna tonight.

Joaquin nearly gave the visitors the lead in the first minute but his powerful shot was saved well by Andres Fernandez.

Rondon and Santi Cazorla also had half-chances to put Malaga ahead but both shot off target, while Nacho Monreal came even closer as his effort struck the post.

Against the run of play, Osasuna went in front courtesy of a goal from Nino, who applied the finish to Alvaro Cejudo's build-up play.

However, Malaga earned themselves a draw when Cazorla found the net on 67 minutes by converting from Joaquin's pass.

The result means Malaga are three points clear of fifth place Levante in the race for the final Champions League qualifying spot.
