Head coach Hansi Flick says that he remains hopeful that David Alaba will opt to sign a new contract at Bayern Munich.

Head coach Hansi Flick has insisted that he remains confident about keeping David Alaba at Bayern Munich in the long term.

The defender, who has been at the Allianz Arena since 2011, is being linked with a transfer elsewhere with his contract due to expire in 2021.

However, at a time when the Austria international is still a regular in the starting lineup, Flick has suggested that the 28-year-old may have second thoughts about an exit.

Speaking to reporters at a press conference, Flick said: "I feel he's the same as last season, very focused, loud on the pitch, one of the players who leads our defence. For me, there's no difference between now and last season.

"I'm not concerning myself with [a January transfer] at all right now. I still hope he'll sign with Bayern because I think he knows what the situation is like here in Munich. It's a lot of fun to train with a team with a good atmosphere here, we play successful football and this club is one of the best in the world.

"The conditions are top for every player right now and I think he'll think twice about changing that."

Liverpool, Manchester City and Real Madrid are among the clubs who are said to hold an interest in the player.
