Barcelona forward Luis Suarez hopes that former Liverpool teammate Philippe Coutinho will join him at Camp Nou next year, having seen a summer transfer fall through.

Luis Suarez has talked up Philippe Coutinho's attacking qualities and insisted that the Liverpool playmaker 'can contribute a lot' should he join Barcelona.

The Catalan giants are expected to make a fresh approach for the 25-year-old in the New Year after having three separate bids knocked back during the summer window.

Suarez, who enjoyed a season-and-a-half spell playing alongside Coutinho at Anfield before departing in 2014, believes that his former teammate would be a big success at Camp Nou if a deal can be agreed.

"He can offer a lot. I know him as a person and as a player because I played with him, but everyone knows what Coutinho can contribute," he told Mundo Deportivo. "He is a footballer, who today, plays at a very high level.

"Obviously he would have [wanted the move] because he's a player who has ambition and any player would want to come to Barca.

"He went through a difficult and very complicated moment but as a professional he continued to show how good a player he is and the personal quality he has. Despite trying to leave Liverpool he continued helping the team and working."

Coutinho has also been linked with a move to Italian champions Juventus and was previously on Paris Saint-Germain's radar.
