Alan Pardew criticises Andy Carroll dive

Alan Pardew believes that Andy Carroll we'll become "stronger" following his torrid appearance for Liverpool at the Sports Direct Arena yesterday.

Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has expressed his 'disappointment' in Andy Carroll's conduct during the Magpies victory over Liverpool on Sunday.

The Reds striker was accused of diving for a penalty in the early stages of the Merseyside club's eventual 2-0 defeat to the North East side at the Sports Direct Arena.

"It was always going to be tough for him," Pardew told the Shields Gazette. "But the dive didn't help him in his case. I was disappointed that he did that, it's unlike him.

"This is a lad we love here, and we wish him a better year next year. He's had a tough year this time, but he'll be stronger for it."

Newcastle's former number nine, who endured a constant chorus of boos and jeers from the home fans, stormed down the tunnel after he was substituted by Kenny Dalglish in the 78th minute of the clash.
