Ronald Koeman: 'We were denied clear penalty in defeat to Liverpool'

Southampton boss Ronald Koeman suggests that his side were denied a penalty during their 2-0 home defeat to Liverpool in the Premier League.

Southampton coach Ronald Koeman has suggested that a refereeing decision contributed to his side's downfall as they lost 2-0 at home to Liverpool.

Brendan Rodgers and his men came out on top at St Mary's, with Koeman indicating that his side should have had a clear penalty in the Premier League fixture.

"It's not about giving favours. I don't expect favours; I expect good decisions in situation in the box," Koeman told talkSPORT.

"In one situation it is a clear penalty. The first and the third are more difficult to see what exactly happened. But the second is a clear penalty and that is a mistake of the referee.

"Referees are humans, but I call it unlucky. I don't speak about favours but I expect when it's a clear penalty for the referee to blow his whistle, but he didn't."

The defeat sees Southampton sitting in fifth spot in the league standings.
