Jurgen Klopp: Southampton game "close to perfection"

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp declares his side's 6-1 win over Southampton on Wednesday as being "close to perfection".

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has branded his side's 6-1 hammering of Southampton on Wednesday "close to perfection".

The Reds fell behind to Sadio Mane's first-minute opener, but a Daniel Sturridge brace gave Klopp's men the lead before Divock Origi netted a hat-trick.

Jordon Ibe was also on the scoresheet at St Mary's and the result earned the five-time European Cup winners Sky Sports News' Performance of the Week award for the second week running.

"I want to thank [sponsors] LG and the LMA," the Liverpool boss said. "I want to thank my players because obviously they did the job. It was a good match, there was no doubt about it.

"The start was not too good and we have to learn this and it is not always possible to come back in a game of course. [To go behind first] you can forget it, second time you can ignore, but the third time, we have to talk about it.

"The players then made everything right from the second [after the Southampton goal]. From 25 minutes on we were close to perfection. We had seven shots and six goals, so that is not too bad."

Liverpool travel to Newcastle United on Sunday.
