Jordan Henderson hopes captaincy won't affect relationship with teammates

Jordan Henderson is hopeful that the relationship with his teammates will not be affected now that he has become Liverpool captain.

Liverpool's new captain Jordan Henderson has said that he is hopeful the armband will not affect his close relationship with his teammates.

The England international was given the captaincy by manager Brendan Rodgers this summer following the departure of talisman Steven Gerrard.

The 25-year-old, who acted as vice-captain last season, has guided the Reds to pre-season victories over Thailand All-Stars, Brisbane Roar and Adelaide United since being handed the armband on a permanent basis.

When asked in an interview with LFCTV if he expects his relationship with his teammates to be affected, Henderson said: "I hope not.

"I mean, possibly, but I hope it doesn't because I get on with all the lads I hope and I feel as though they can come to me with anything at any time.

"I hope that doesn't change and if I just keep doing what I've been doing and if I don't change I'm sure the lads won't change with us."

Liverpool's first Premier League game of the new season is away to Stoke City on August 9.
