Saturday's Liverpool transfer talk news roundup: Kalidou Koulibaly, Nuno Mendes, Bruno Fernandes

Sports Mole rounds up the latest transfer talk for Liverpool on Saturday, November 14.

The summer transfer window has now closed and attention will begin to turn to January for Premier League champions Liverpool.

Jurgen Klopp's side brought in Thiago Alcantara, Diogo Jota and Kostas Tsimikas during the summer, making for one of their busier transfer windows in the last couple of years.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up the latest news on possible comings and goings from Anfield.

Saturday morning's Liverpool transfer talk news roundup:

Liverpool considering Kalidou Koulibaly move?

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp could reportedly move for Napoli's Kalidou Koulibaly in January amid the Reds' defensive injury crisis.

Klopp's dilemma at the back worsened in midweek as Joe Gomez suffered a serious injury while on England duty, with Virgil van Dijk already set to spend months on the sidelines.

With Liverpool's two first-choice centre-backs out for the long-term and Joel Matip struggling with an injury of his own up until very recently, speculation has been rife surrounding defensive reinforcements being brought in at Anfield in January.

According to The Mirror, Klopp has taken a liking to the highly-rated Koulibaly, and the Napoli man is firmly in his thoughts when it comes to planning business for the next transfer window.

Liverpool were one of the clubs linked with a move for the Senegalese defender over the summer, with Manchester City and Manchester United also credited with an interest, but Koulibaly's price tag proved too costly for potential suitors and the 29-year-old remained in Italy.

Schalke's Ozan Kabak and RB Leipzig's Dayot Upamecano have also been mentioned as potential January targets for the injury-hit Premier League champions.

Liverpool, Manchester United, Arsenal handed Nuno Mendes blow?

Sporting Lisbon are reportedly on the verge of raising the release clause of teenage defender Nuno Mendes to €70m (£62.8m) in order to hold off interest from England.

Liverpool, Manchester United and Arsenal are all said to be keeping tabs on the 18-year-old, who broke into Sporting's first team in the latter stages of last season.

Mendes has already featured on nine occasions for his Portuguese club in 2020-21, while he recently signed a new deal until the end of the 2024-25 campaign.

There is allegedly a €45m (£40.4m) release clause in the youngster's current contract, but according to Record, Sporting have reached an agreement to raise the buy-out fee to €70m (£62.8m).

Mendes shares an agent with Bruno Fernandes, who left the Portuguese giants during the January transfer window to complete a move to United.

The defender, who has already been capped at Under-21 level by Portugal, has been with the Green and Whites since the age of 10.
