Virgil van Dijk was in need of treatment after picking up an injury in Liverpool's 2-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur, Reds boss Jurgen Klopp confirms.

Jurgen Klopp has revealed that Virgil van Dijk required medical treatment following Liverpool's 2-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday afternoon.

The Dutch centre-back picked up an injury late on at Anfield when defending a two-on-one attack from Tottenham, preventing Moussa Sissoko from finding the target with the scoreline at 1-1.

Van Dijk stayed on the field and saw his side claim a last-minute winner through a Toby Alderweireld own goal, taking Liverpool back to the top of the Premier League.

Klopp is unsure how serious the damage sustained by Dutchman is, but he was spotted with an ice pack shortly after the match finished.

"We have to see," he told reporters. "I asked him and I think it was in the counter-attack situation when Sissoko hit him... I don't know if he twisted it or it is a knock.

"He was walking to the interviews with a big ice pack. I hope it's nothing serious but I don't know yet."

Liverpool are back in action next Friday with a trip to the south coast to face Southampton.
