Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp admits that James Milner needed 15 stitches to suture a head wound suffered during Saturday's 5-0 friendly win over Napoli.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has revealed that James Milner needed 15 stitches to suture a head wound suffered during Saturday's 5-0 friendly win over Napoli.

The midfielder scored the opening goal in the Reds' penultimate pre-season game, but was taken off early in the second half after colliding with defender Mario Rui.

Klopp confirmed the extent of Milner's injury but did not confirm if the player had been ruled out of their Premier League opener against West Ham United next Sunday.

"I knew that he would get stitches because we saw it on the pitch. He's in the dressing room so I have to see him first before I can say more," Klopp told the club's official website.

"That's obviously the big shadow over that game."

Milner is expected to miss Liverpool's final pre-season clash against Torino at Anfield on Tuesday.
