The Football Association will allegedly investigate claims that Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino racially abused Everton defender Mason Holgate in Friday's FA Cup tie.

The Football Association has reportedly indicated that it will launch an investigation into an incident involving Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino and Everton defender Mason Holgate.

During the first half of the FA Cup clash at Anfield, Holgate appeared to push Firmino towards the advertising boards, with the Brazilian falling into the crowd.

Firmino reacted by running towards Holgate before the referee stepped in front of the Everton youngster, who then appeared to react to something said by the Brazilian.

Holgate reported what is alleged to be a racist slur to referee Bobby Madley and according to The Telegraph, the FA will now assess the incident in the coming days, a move which has been accompanied by a response from Liverpool.

A statement read: "The club and player will fully co-operate with the relevant authorities to ensure the facts are established in a thorough manner if deemed necessary or requested."

Liverpool recorded a 2-1 victory thanks to goals from James Milner and Virgil van Dijk.
