Leicester City are reportedly intensifying talks over a new contract with star man James Maddison, as he approaches the final year of his current deal.

Leicester City have reportedly made James Maddison's contract situation the club's top priority, as they look to fend off interest from fellow Premier League sides.

Maddison has been the shining light during a troubled campaign for the Foxes, as Brendan Rodgers's side currently sit 13th, just six points from trouble.

However, the full return of Maddison from injury two weeks ago has resulted in two wins for Leicester to ease some relegation concerns, with the side netting four on both occasions against Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur.

It was no surprise that Maddison was on the scoresheet in both games to take his tally to nine goals for the season in just 16 league games.

Therefore, Leicester have intensified talks with their talisman in order to tie him down to a new contract, according to The Telegraph.

However, with Spurs, Newcastle United and Manchester City all rumoured to be interested in the England man, Leicester may find it increasingly difficult to persuade him to stay.

Having made Gareth Southgate's England squad for the World Cup in Qatar, clubs vying for Champions League qualification are unsurprisingly taking note.

Maddison has just under 18 months left on his current deal, so if Leicester cannot get him to stay, then cashing in on him during the summer window will be the most likely outcome.
