Leeds United striker Matt Smith brushes off "silly" transfer talk

Leeds United striker Matt Smith describes the transfer window as "silly season", insisting that he isn't distracted by rumours linking him with a move away.

Matt Smith has described the January transfer window as "silly season" and distanced himself from reports linking him with a move to Premier League side Crystal Palace.

Tall striker Smith has been in and out of the Leeds team this season under Brian McDermott and has reportedly attracted the interest of Palace boss Tony Pulis, who is said to be after a large presence up front.

Leeds have lost four games in a row in all competitions and in the 6-0 thrashing by Yorkshire rivals Sheffield Wednesday at the weekend, Smith was sent off and will now miss the next three games.

Smith told SportsDirect News that he is fully focused on Leeds and won't be getting sidetracked by transfer gossip.

"Now is not the time to get distracted by what people are saying during the transfer window. Silly season will be over in a couple of weeks," he said.

Smith joined Leeds from Oldham Athletic in the summer, signing a two-year deal at Elland Road. He has scored seven league goals for the Whites this season.
