Interim coach Neil Redfearn insists that he is fully focused on improving Leeds United's fortunes, rather than speculation linking him with the job a permanent basis.

Leeds United's interim manager Neil Redfearn has insisted that he is focused on improving the club's league position, rather than the speculation surrounding who will take over the Whites.

Redfearn is seen as a contender for the role following chairman Ken Bates's decision to give the 46-year-old at least three matches in charge to prove his credentials.

However, Redfearn has refused to get carried away with the reports.

"The bottom line is no-one knows. You can speculate as much as you want but no-one knows," Redfearn said. "Only the powers that be know which direction the club are going to go in. I've been asked to do a job and haven't looked beyond that. It's a real honour to be in charge of the club for whatever length of time.

"I can understand that some fans may want a big name or a high-profile name. But whoever comes in or does the job, I firmly believe it's not about the manager. It's about the players and that will always be the case.

"The manager sets things up, but once you come to 3pm on a Saturday then it's about the 11 players on the pitch."

Leeds have been looking for a new boss since sacking Simon Grayson earlier this month.
