Granada beat Cordoba to move within a point of safety

Granada beat already-relegated Cordoba to move within a point of safety in La Liga.

Granada defeated La Liga's bottom club Cordoba 2-0 this afternoon to move to within a point of safety.

The visitors played more than half of the match with 10 men as defender Inigo Lopez was given his marching orders after 30 minutes for committing a second bookable offence.

Granada were already dominating play by this stage, but they made their numerical advantage count by breaking the deadlock on the stroke of half time through Diego Mainz, who leaped high inside the box to nod home a free kick from Piti.

They added a second in the 69th minute from the penalty spot, with Youssef El-Arabi tucking one into the bottom corner from 12 yards after Ruben Rochina had drawn a foul from Aleksandar Pantic in the area.

Cordoba, who were already relegated ahead of kickoff, finished the game with nine men after Fede Cartabia picked up two yellow cards in rapid succession.

The result leaves Granada one point behind 17th-placed Eibar in the table with two matches remaining.
