Getafe ease past Girona

Getafe get the better of Girona 4-1 at home to progress to the last 16 of the Copa del Rey.

Getafe have eased past Girona over two legs to the last 16 of the Copa del Rey.

The La Liga outfit registered a 4-1 victory at home over Ricardo Rodriguez's side to win their round-of-32 tie 5-2 on aggregate.

The Madrid-based club went into the second leg on Tuesday having drawn the first leg 1-1 away from home, but it took them just five minutes to assert their supremacy.

Sarabia put Getafe 1-0 up in the second leg after just two minutes and Adrian Colunga doubled their lead minutes later when he converted a penalty.

Lafita made it 3-0 before the break, but Jandro gave Girona some hope for the final 30 minutes of the encounter when he pulled one back from the spot just before the hour mark.

However, Getafe did not relinquish their advantage and instead extended it on 73 minutes through Lisandro Lopez to book their place in the last 16.
