David Marshall, Alex McCarthy on Everton's shortlist?

Goalkeepers David Marshall and Alex McCarthy are reportedly transfer targets of Everton manager Roberto Martinez.

Everton manager Roberto Martinez has reportedly identified David Marshall and Alex McCarthy as potential arrivals to ease the goalkeeping crisis at Goodison Park.

With number one Tim Howard sidelined through injury and deputy Joel Robles linked with a return to Spain, Martinez has made it known that he is eager to sign a keeper during this month's transfer window.

Having assessed a number of options, Martinez has settled on either Cardiff City's Marshall or McCarthy, who is currently the backup keeper at Queens Park Rangers, according to the Daily Mail.

Speaking about the situation last night, Martinez said: "There are a couple of options I feel could fit really well but I wouldn't just bring in anyone who stops the development of a youngster.

"I would rather make it a long-term signing. I don't think short-term would be a solution for us now."

Norwich City keeper John Ruddy is also said to be under consideration by Martinez.
