Jordan Pickford: 'Everton must be ambitious'

Goalkeeper Jordan Pickford claims that he and his Everton teammates must be more "ambitious" during the closing months of the season.

Goalkeeper Jordan Pickford has called on his Everton teammates to continue to build on the "positive" impact made by manager Sam Allardyce.

In recent days, reports have suggested that Allardyce could be replaced at the end of the season having won just six of his 16 matches in all competitions.

However, Pickford says that the Toffees have improved since the arrival of Allardyce, and has demanded that the team show 'more ambition' during their final 10 matches of the campaign.

The 23-year-old is quoted by Sky Sports News as saying: "As a group of lads, we've got to be ambitious. If you're not ambitious, there's no point in playing football.

"We want to finish as high as possible and if that's seventh, that's where we want to be. I feel like we're capable and it's an easy target - if we win on Saturday then we go seventh on goal difference.

"We have to kick on. We've got 10 games left in the season and as a group, we want to win as many games as possible and that starts on Saturday. We're in ninth compared to when the gaffer came in and we were two points away from the relegation places. Now, we're three points away from seventh so you look at it positively rather than negatively."

Everton face Burnley at Turf Moor this weekend having recorded seven points from their last five outings in the top flight.
