Everton's entire first-team squad and coaching staff are undertaking a period of self-isolation due to a coronavirus scare.

Everton have announced that their entire first-team squad and coaching staff are currently undertaking a period of self-isolation due to a coronavirus scare.

In a statement on their official website, the Toffees said the following: "The step has been taken after a first-team player reported symptoms consistent with coronavirus. The club is in regular contact with the player in question and is monitoring the wellbeing of all players and staff."

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta and Chelsea attacker Callum Hudson-Odoi have both been diagnosed with the respiratory condition since Thursday night, while Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers revealed on Thursday that three members of his squad had been placed in isolation.

The Premier League is now expected to suspend the next two weekends of action before reassessing the situation at the start of April.

Everton also revealed that they have closed their facilities "to adhere to UK Government and Public Health guidelines" before stating that "further updates will be provided in due course".

The Merseyside giants had been due to face rivals Liverpool at Anfield on Monday night.
