Dundee United manager Jackie McNamara says that the Scottish Premiership should be expanded.

Dundee United manager Jackie McNamara has said that the Scottish Premiership should be expanded.

McNamara believes that the top clubs in the Scottish Championship would help improve the quality of the top division, with Falkirk and Hibernian meeting in the Scottish Cup semi-final on Saturday.

"We have enough good teams in the Championship to extend the league and make it more exciting," McNamara told BBC Sport.

"Some countries only play 30 games a season and we've played Celtic seven times this season. It's shown in even the cup games - there are Championship teams in the semi-final [on Saturday].

"You look at the league this year and Aberdeen haven't managed to beat Celtic, but they've managed to hang in there by beating everybody else."

The Scottish Premiership has included 12 teams since the 2000-01 season.
