Nigel Pearson: 'Kasper Schmeichel will bounce back'

Leicester City manager Nigel Pearson admits that Kasper Schmeichel's error proved costly, but insists that the Dane has his full support.

Leicester City manager Nigel Pearson has leapt to the defence of goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel after his error gifted Doncaster Rovers a 1-0 victory today.

The Dane parried Mark Duffy's corner into his own net on 17 minutes, as the Foxes succumbed to just their second defeat in the Championship this season.

However, Pearson has described the 26-year-old as "exceptional" and believes that he has the ability to put the incident behind him.

Speaking to reporters after the game, the 50-year-old said: "Kasper been exceptional since we've been here.

"He has won us a lot of points and If anyone can bounce back from it, he can. He has my full support."

While the former Hull City boss acknowledges that his goalkeeper's mistake proved decisive, Pearson believes that his team were lacking quality in the final third to avoid the mistake.

"I can't criticise our work ethic today, but we lacked a bit of quality," he added. "We had our best spell just before half time, but these things happen so we have to move on.

"I don't think we stretched them enough, but the game has been settled by an error. But we did not have the same zip in recent weeks so fair play to Doncaster."

Leicester, who remain third in England's second tier despite the result, host Huddersfield Town at the King Power stadium in two weeks' time due to the international break.
