Steve McClaren: Derby County were "too negative"

Derby County manager Steve McClaren admits that his side were "too negative" in their draw with 10-man Watford in the Championship.

Steve McClaren has admitted that Derby County were "too negative" in their draw with Watford in the Championship this evening.

The Rams played more than half of the match against just 10 men after Marco Motta was sent off just before half time, but Watford came from behind in the second half to claim a 2-2 draw.

The manager told Sky Sports News: "We have only ourselves to blame. We said at half time let's be ruthless and go for it. We got the goal and then we stopped. We thought the game was over. We were too negative and not ruthless enough.

"It kind of sums up the last three or four weeks. We are conceding two goals every game and they are poor goals. You can't go into games needing three goals to win and we needed that tonight.

"We have nobody to blame but ourselves for the situation we are in from where we were."

The point was enough to keep Derby in the final playoff place.
