Bristol City boss Lee Johnson: 'Derby County penalty claim was strong'

Johnson: 'Derby penalty claim was strong'

Bristol City manager Lee Johnson admits that Derby County should have been awarded a penalty in the Championship meeting between the two teams.

Bristol City manager Lee Johnson has admitted his side were lucky that a penalty decision went in their favour during their goalless draw at Derby County.

The Robins boss conceded that Aden Flint should have been penalised for his late challenge on Cameron Jerome in the box with three minutes remaining.

"To be fair, it did look like a penalty but sometimes you get away with those," he told Sky Sports News.

Regarding his side's overall performance, Johnson admitted that his players rode their luck at times but praised them for their work rate.

"It was a bit cagey in the first half, with both teams showing a bit too much respect to each other," he added.

"But in the second half it opened up, it was end to end, both teams had some good chances and Luke Steele had to pull off two very good saves.

"You could say we were lucky to get away with a point but we worked very hard. It's a good point for us and it stops the mini rot."

The result leaves Bristol in fifth place in the Championship, while Derby stay second.
