Half-Time Report: Darren Bent fires Derby County ahead at break

Darren Bent gives Derby County a slender 1-0 advantage over Chesterfield at half time of their FA Cup fourth-round tie.

Darren Bent's first goal for Derby County has given the Rams a 1-0 lead over local rivals Chesterfield at half time of their FA Cup fourth-round tie.

In the opening 15 minutes, Chesterfield managed to stem the free-flowing attacking play which has seen Derby rise to the upper echelons of the Championship this season.

In fact, the visitors had a good chance to go ahead after a quarter of an hour, but Armand Gnanduillet fired at Kelle Roos after bursting into the box.

However, they fell a goal behind after 20 minutes when Bent hooked Jake Buxton's header home from a corner.

Jay O'Shea then came close with a long-range effort before the midfielder stung the hands of Roos with a strike from a similar distance just moments later.

The League One side continued to pen Derby inside their own half and Eoin Doyle almost flicked home a cross at the near post, only to see his effort fly inches over the crossbar.
