Chelsea reportedly fail with a bid to recall defender Emerson Palmieri from his season-long loan spell at Lyon.

Lyon have reportedly informed Chelsea that they will not be allowed to recall Emerson Palmieri during the January transfer window.

With the player having failed to earn regular game time last season, the Blues gave the Italy international permission to move out on loan to Lyon.

However, Thomas Tuchel's side are now short of wing-back options, a consequence of a season-ending injury for Ben Chilwell and a significant hamstring issue for Reece James.

Nevertheless, L'Equipe says that Lyon have no intention of letting Chelsea have Palmieri back for the second half of the campaign.

The report says that the Ligue 1 outfit have already refused a request from the West Londoners, a decision that is in their hands as per the terms of the loan agreement.

The 27-year-old has made a total of 17 starts and two substitute appearances in France's top flight and the Europa League this season.
