Bayern Munich are reportedly set to reignite their interest in Chelsea's Trevoh Chalobah in the January transfer window.

Bayern Munich could reportedly renew their interest in Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah in the January transfer window.

The German champions experienced a forgettable final day of the summer transfer window after they failed to finalise deals for Chalobah and Fulham midfielder Joao Palhinha.

The Bavarians were keen to sign Chalobah following the departure of Benjamin Pavard, who completed a move to Italian giants Inter Milan.

Bayern boss Thomas Tuchel was hoping to reunite with the player he once managed at Chelsea, but Bayern ultimately ran out of time to complete the deal.

Nottingham Forest were also interested in signing the 24-year-old and submitted a £25m bid in the final stages of the transfer window.

However, Chalobah was reluctant to join the East Midlands club, ensuring he remained at Stamford Bridge when the transfer window slammed shut.

Despite failing in their attempts to sign Chalobah in the summer, Bayern could revisit the deal when the window reopens in January.

Journalist Ben Jacobs said: "Trevoh Chalobah wanted the move to Bayern, but the German window closed a few hours earlier on September 1 and no agreement was reached.

"Bayern preferred a loan. Chalobah could have gone to Nottingham Forest but wasn't keen. I don't see him getting many Chelsea minutes and it wouldn't surprise me if Bayern come back in with a loan offer in January."

While Bayern would prefer a loan move, Chelsea are reportedly open to a permanent sale and are understood to be looking for a £50m fee.

Chalobah has not featured this season due to an injury issue, but he may find it difficult to force his way into the side when he returns to full fitness.

The Blues added to their central defensive options during the summer with the £38.5m signing of Axel Disasi from Monaco.

Levi Colwill also returned to Stamford Bridge following a successful loan spell with Brighton & Hove Albion last season.

As a result, Chalobah is competing with the likes of Disasi, Colwill, Thiago Silva and Benoit Badiashile for a place in the Chelsea squad.
