The prosecution argue that John Terry snapped following Anton Ferdinand's goading about the Chelsea captain's alleged extra-marital affair with a former teammate's girlfriend, a court has heard.

Chelsea captain John Terry has refuted suggestions that jibes about an alleged extra-marital affair 'tipped him over the edge', a court has heard today.

The England centre-back arrived at Westminster Magistrates' Court this morning for the third day of his trial, where the 31-year-old is facing a racially-aggravated public order offence following an accusation of racist abuse towards Queens Park Rangers defender Anton Ferdinand during a West London derby at Loftus Road last October.

The prosecution questioned the former Three Lions skipper today and argued that Terry had said "and yours you f**king black c***" after Ferdinand had made a reference to the defender's well-publicised affair with the girlfriend of former teammate Wayne Bridge.

The prosecution are claiming that Terry, who denies the racism charge, could not have simply repeated the accusation from Ferdinand if he had uttered the words "and yours" before the quote in question.

"Nobody in this room can tell me what I've heard," Terry said in court today. "There's no video on Anton, it's on me, that's unfortunate.

"Why would this incident tip me over the edge when I've heard [jibes about the affair] a million times before? I have heard what I have heard on the pitch, you can't tell me what I have heard."

The court were shown detailed clips of unseen footage of the incident, however John Obi Mikel obscures the screen during Terry's response to Ferdinand.
