Chelsea's interim boss Frank Lampard will remain in his position until the end of the season despite losing his first five games in charge.

Chelsea's interim boss Frank Lampard will remain in his position until the end of the season.

After Graham Potter was relieved of his duties earlier this month, the Chelsea board decided to bring Lampard back for a second spell as Chelsea head coach.

The club legend was appointed on an interim basis, signing a short-term deal until the end of the 2022-23 season.

Lampard has been unable to instigate an upturn in fortunes, having lost all five games since returning to the Chelsea dugout.

In that period, the Blues were knocked out of the Champions League following a 4-0 aggregate defeat to Real Madrid in the quarter-finals.

Chelsea are now winless in eight competitive matches since beating Leicester City 3-1 at the King Power Stadium on March 11.

Due to their poor run of form, there has been speculation about whether Lampard will remain in his post until the end of the campaign.

However, according to Sky Sports News, Chelsea are not planning to dismiss Lampard, who will stay on for the final six games of the season.

The report claims that the Chelsea board are still hoping to appoint a new manager for next season within the next seven days.

Luis Enrique and Julian Nagelsmann were believed to be the early frontrunners, but the pair are no longer in the frame.

Former Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino is currently the favourite for the role, with a recent report suggesting that he has agreed to become the next Chelsea head coach.

Lampard, meanwhile, will be looking to end Chelsea's winless run when they travel to the Emirates Stadium to face Arsenal on Tuesday.

The Blues are currently sitting in 11th position after picking up 39 points from 32 Premier League games this season.
