Jurgen Klopp suggests that Virgil van Dijk should be fit to feature against Chelsea next week, despite leaving the field early against Southampton with a rib injury.

Jurgen Klopp has said that he is hopeful Virgil van Dijk will not spend any time on the sidelines after the centre-back limped off during Liverpool's win over Southampton.

The only negative of the Reds' 3-0 triumph at Anfield was the sight of the Netherlands international leaving the field 10 minutes into the second half against his former club.

Van Dijk suffered a knock to his already-bruised ribs and was replaced by Joe Gomez, but Klopp has allayed fears that the world's most expensive defender - a key part of Liverpool's 100% start to the season - is facing a spell out of action.

"He already had a bruise in the ribs before the PSG game, which is very uncomfortable and he got another hit there," he told reporters. "It's not cool but should not be too serious. It should be absolutely OK, hopefully. I didn't hear anything different."

Liverpool have a double-header against Chelsea to prepare for, in the EFL Cup and Premier League, over the next six days.
