Celtic held by Ross County

Ross County hold Celtic to a goalless draw in Saturday's Championship clash at Celtic Park.

Celtic were unable to break down a stern Ross County side in Saturday's Scottish Premiership clash, with the score ending goalless at Celtic Park.

Celtic dominated the possession in the early moments and had a half-chance through the returning Leigh Griffiths with five minutes on the clock, but the forward's header from a Emilio Izaguirre cross just missed the post.

As the half progressed, Celtic continued to create chances, but John Guidetti was denied by Ross County goalkeeper Antonio Reguero, before Scott Brown fired high and wide of the crossbar from outside the box.

Guidetti again came close after 19 minutes, but his free kick hit the side-netting as Ross County struggled to contain the home side's pressure.

Nir Bitton was next to come close for Celtic after meeting a deep cross from Stefan Johansen, but the busy Ruguero was once again on hand to make the save.

The away side's best chance arrived after 30 minutes when Michael Woods capitalised on some poor defending inside the Celtic box, but his effort was wide of the post.

Callum McGregor came close to handing Celtic the lead five minutes into the second period, but the 21-year-old's curling effort rattled the crossbar and Guidetti somehow could not convert the rebound. The hosts continued to dominate, but Ruguero denied Griffiths twice in quick succession to keep the score at 0-0.

Virgil van Dijk and Griffiths both had opportunities just before the hour mark, but neither could make the breakthrough as the County defence stood strong.

Celtic made changes as the second period developed, but still could not find a way through as the score finished level in Glasgow.

Despite securing a point, Ross County have dropped to the bottom of the league, while Celtic remain five points clear at the summit.
