Malky Mackay pleased with Cardiff City's second half

Malky Mackay is pleased with his side's improvement after half time, despite losing 3-0 at home to Southampton.

Cardiff City manager Malky Mackay has praised his side for their improvement in the second half of their 3-0 home Premier League defeat to Southampton.

Mackay went on to confirm that the off-field problems are affecting the players but did not say when or if he would meet with the club's owner Vincent Tan.

"We showed why we are competing in this league with the second-half performance and, on another day, we could have scored a couple of goals," he told BBC Sport.

"I'm not going to use any excuse about off-the-pitch events for our first-half performance. We seem to be washing our dirty linen in public.

"It's something I feel very sorry for our fans. They should be enjoying being in the Premier League, but events off the pitch are putting us on the front pages and that is not good. I do not know when I will be meeting Vincent Tan, it is not something that has been conveyed to me."

Cardiff have slipped to 17th in the Premier League.
