Brighton & Hove Albion are reportedly leading the race to sign Argentine youngster Alan Velasco from Independiente, amid interest from Newcastle United also.

Brighton & Hove Albion have reportedly emerged as favourites to sign Independiente winger Alan Velasco, amid links with Newcastle United also.

The 18-year-old has featured 16 times for Independiente this campaign, scoring one goal and providing two assists, and attracting high praise for his performances in South America.

Brighton are believed to be in the market for an attacking player who can help them score more goals in the Premier League next season, as they look to better their 40 goals scored in the just-completed season.

According to Football Insider the South Coast club had a bid of £6m rejected by Independiente but the English outfit are expected to return to the table with an improved offer for Velasco.

The Seagulls hope to get offers to the Argentine club early in the transfer window in their quest to ward off any competition from Newcastle, who have also been linked with the 18-year-old.

Velasco, who made his Independiente debut in 2019 and has gone on to make 41 appearances for the club, still has two years left to run on his contract.
