Robbie Fowler's move to Blackpool has collapsed following reports that the Championship side offered him just £100 per week.
The former Liverpool striker is said to have reacted angrily when chairman Karl Oyston made the salary offer, which also included a £5,000 bonus for every first-team appearance, The Mirror reports.
Blackpool manager Ian Holloway said: "Unless I can get things done and a deal done in a slightly different way, then he won't be coming.
"If it doesn't happen, I'll be disappointed, but such is life."
Holloway was hoping to add Fowler to his veteran strikeforce, which includes Kevin Phillips and Brett Ormerod.
