Blackburn Rovers put five goals past 10-man Barnsley

Blackburn Rovers won their first Championship match of the season after beating Barnsley 5-2, with the away side being reduced to 10 men.

Blackburn Rovers won their first league game of the season by claiming a 5-2 victory over 10-man Barnsley at Ewood Park this afternoon.

The away side took the lead in the 13th minute when Chris Dagnall fired into the bottom corner from 25 yards.

Barnsley were reduced to 10 men when defender Jean Yves Mvoto was sent off just three minutes later after bringing down Jonathan Rhodes.

Blackburn immediately equalised as on-loan midfielder Tom Cairney scored from a free kick.

Jordan Rhodes gave the home side the lead on the half-hour mark when he headed past Barnsley keeper Luke Steele following Todd Kane's cross.

Rhodes added his second of the game in the 39th minute after lifting the ball over Steele having being played through by Scott Dann.

Blackburn soon made it four after Joshua King slotted home Todd Kane's cross at the back post.

The home side scored their fifth goal of the game approaching the hour mark when Kane hit a powerful shot past Steele.

Substitute Tomasz Cywka pulled a late goal back for the visitors with a volley past Jake Kean after being set up by new signing Marcus Pedersen.
