Quique Setien insists that Barcelona and Lionel Messi will 'always be united', despite alleged disagreements behind the scenes at Camp Nou.

Quique Setien has dismissed suggestions that Lionel Messi could leave Barcelona on a free transfer later in 2020.

Due to a clause in his contract, Messi is allegedly in a position where he can move to a new team at the end of this season, resulting in speculation regarding a potential switch to Inter Milan.

However, despite the club legend reportedly being in disputes behind the scenes, Setien has played down talk of the forward departing the Catalan giants.

Speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport, Setien said: "He will leave Barcelona for free? No, it won't happen. Messi and Barcelona will always be united.

"It's just like that. Leo has been at Barca for 20 years and nobody could explain a breakdown situation."

Messi has been at Barca since 2001, scoring a total of 627 goals from 718 appearances in the first team.
