Lamine Yamal wants to 'break more records' for Barcelona after becoming the youngest-ever player to represent the Catalan outfit.

Lamine Yamal has said that he wants to 'break more records' for Barcelona after becoming the youngest-ever player to represent the Catalan outfit at first-team level.

The attacker was an unused substitute against Atletico Madrid and Rayo Vallecano in La Liga before being introduced for his debut in the 83rd minute of Saturday's clash with Real Betis.

Yamal's appearance made him the youngest player to represent Barcelona at senior level, with his outing coming at the age of 15 years and 290 days.

The teenager, who has been with Barcelona since the age of five, will now be bidding to keep hold of his first-team role in the remaining weeks of the La Liga campaign.

Head coach Xavi was full of praise for Yamal after the clash with Real Betis and compared him to Lionel Messi, who is widely regarded as the best player to ever represent the Catalan giants.

Yamal has now had his say on the historic night, with the attacker vowing to 'break more records'.

"There were so many emotions when I came on. It was incredible to see the Spotify Camp Nou from the pitch. Little by little I got over my nerves and tried to feel as comfortable as possible," he told Barca TV.

"My teammates also helped me a lot and I'm grateful to them. I'm very happy that I broke the record, but I want to break many more."

The teenager's current deal at Camp Nou is due to expire in June 2024, and there has recently been speculation surrounding his future.

However, Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Barcelona are confident of reaching an agreement with the forward over a new long-term deal in the near future.

Raphinha also said that the attacker "will be very important for the club" moving forward.

"We were telling him that on the bench. When I was 15, I was playing for my local neighbourhood club. He entered this stadium with these fans, and it was unbelievable. He almost scored, too," said Barcelona's Brazilian forward.

"Everyone will help Lamine, he will be very important for the club."

Barcelona's 4-0 win over Real Betis moved them onto 79 points from 32 league matches, with the team 11 points clear of second-placed Real Madrid at the top of the table.

The Catalan outfit's final six league games of the season are against Osasuna, Espanyol, Real Sociedad, Real Valladolid, Mallorca and Celta Vigo.
