Barcelona striker Martin Braithwaite may reportedly be facing a four-month spell on the sidelines with a serious knee cartilage injury.

Barcelona striker Martin Braithwaite could reportedly be out of action for the next four months owing to a serious knee injury.

The 30-year-old sustained the issue during Barcelona's 2-1 success over Getafe before the international break, being forced to withdraw after 74 minutes of the encounter.

Braithwaite was already classed as a doubt for Tuesday's Champions League opener with Bayern Munich, but the former Middlesbrough man is now said to be facing the prospect of no football until 2022.

According to journalist Gerard Romero, Braithwaite's injury is knee cartilage-related, and the serious nature of the issue could keep him in the treatment room for between three and four months.

Barcelona are already without Ousmane Dembele, Ansu Fati and Sergio Aguero for the long-term, while Braithwaite's injury has seemingly opened up a spot for Luuk de Jong to lead the line against Bayern, with Memphis Depay and Philippe Coutinho either side of him.

Braithwaite claimed two goals and one assist in three La Liga games before his injury, while he boasts 10 goals in 56 appearances for the club in total across all competitions.
