Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert is reportedly keen to offer defender Ron Vlaar a new contract as he enters the final year of his contract at Villa Park.

Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert is desperate to tie defender Ron Vlaar down to a new contract, according to a report.

The 29-year-old is entering the final year of his deal at Villa Park and put in a series of impressive performances at the World Cup with the Netherlands.

Lambert is concerned that his captain could be lured away from the club and is determined to keep him by offering him a lucrative new contract, reports The Telegraph.

Villa are reportedly closing in on the signing of Ki Sung-Yueng from Swansea City.
