The 28-year-old will officially join the club on January 1.

Aston Villa have made their first January signing with Croatia international goalkeeper Lovre Kalinic agreeing to join the club from Gent.

The 28-year-old will officially link up with his new side on January 1 and will sign a deal until 2023.

Kalinic made more than 100 appearances for his boyhood club Hajduk Split before joining Gent two years ago and was a member of the Croatia squad that reached the World Cup final this summer.

Summer signing Orjan Nyland has been first choice this season but has not been convincing.

Head coach Dean Smith said on avfc.co.uk: "We are delighted to be signing someone of Lovre's experience and quality.

"He is an outstanding goalkeeper and we are looking forward to welcoming him when he joins at the beginning of January."
